This project is for a couple that own a piece of property that requires a unique solution to the layout of the home to accommodate the constraints of the site. There are considerations that include environmental concerns, the slope of the existing land, and the direction of desirable views from the location of the home. Taking all of these issues into account, the design reflects those constraints, as well as the function and look they desire.

The floor plan layout is based upon an open plan with large spaces to accommodate everyday life. Besides the living areas on the ground floor, there is also a large master bedroom suite with a master bathroom, and a separate exercise room. The upper level has additional bedrooms and bathrooms, and there are areas dedicated for private offices.

The exterior design is generated by the layout of the plan within and uses traditional detailing to accentuate the interesting forms of the home. Large windows take advantage of the views. Elements such as porches and balustrades, low-slung roof lines, and the variety of materials used help to keep this larger home at a less imposing scale.
