This project started first as an addition and renovation to an existing house. After going through the design process to develop the renovations, the owner decided that they were going to abandon the original addition project, and focus on a completely newly built custom home. So a new design was started from the ground up.

The sloping site created both constraints and possibilities for creating a custom rustic home. The majority of the space is on the main level with a couple of bedrooms on the upper level. This created a horizontally oriented design that engages the landscape. To further this design idea, the materials and detailing utilized reinforces that connection between the house and nature.
