The owner needed a new detached garage building complete with workshop, upper level apartment, and hobby rooms. The existing house is a contemporary structure with large, sweeping rooflines and unique large window configurations. The design of the new structure was to blend with the existing without mimicking or competing with the original.
Large unobstructed interior spaces on the garage level required a detailed steel structural system to accommodate the open column-less areas. The form of the large sloping roofs relates to the design of the original house while being a separate and unique layout and composition.
