The owner had two small lake cabins next to each other that would be combined into a larger single custom home. The desire was to use the existing structures to create a lake home that would fit into the neighborhood context, but also allow for an updated and spacious layout for entertaining.

The first step included obtaining the necessary municipal zoning approvals for this very unique type of project. Careful measurements and analysis of the existing buildings was important for developing the final design.

In both houses there were various existing elements that were saved and reused in the proposed reconstruction. These are combined with new elements in an layout that allows the public areas on the first level of the home to be open and connected. The upper level has an open view to the spaces below from a balcony that extends across the two-story entertaining space.

At the Metro Builders awards banquet in June 2016, the Metropolitan Builders and Contractors Association of New Jersey awarded Fox Architectural Design the Best Commercial Renovation for this project.
