This project was a family room and eating area addition off the kitchen of a split-level house. In contrast to the small rooms in the existing house, the client desired a large open space with vaulted ceilings for the family's everyday living.

In addition to the increase in floor areas, there was also the desire for large amounts of glass to bring more sunlight into the rear of the house to lighten the darker spaces. This was accomplished with the large window and door units, and the wide opening in the rear wall of the kitchen. This opening also allows for an expansion of the eating area of the kitchen into the addition.

Along with the new interior space there was also a new deck added to the rear. This deck provides an outdoor continuation of the new space and provides a transition from the new interior to the rear yard. The detail and finish of the deck compliments the addition, and the original house.
