The driving theme of the design was to transform the simple ranch home into a two-story historically detailed Mansard-style Victorian home. A number of maintenance-free finish materials were utilized to reduce the necessary upkeep typical for this style home. In addition, new materials such as slate-appearance long-life rubber shingles were used. The massing and proportional relationships of the facades were a driving force in the overall development of this design.
The project is an add-a-level where the new second floor is entirely over the existing first level – except at the sunroom. This new upper level provides a master suite, a study, two additional bedrooms, a bath, and laundry room. The lower level was opened up to create a less compartmentalized living space layout that included a larger foyer and living room.
