The existing home was a one-story dwelling with a full basement. The project was to add a second floor to the home and renovate the existing portion to create a new and updated residence.
The first floor work included renovations to the existing interior as well as adding a new bay window in the new living room that was created from existing bedrooms. The entry was expanded by two feet with a new six foot wide covered entry. The existing greenhouse on the left side of the house was converted to a mudroom and a pantry.
The second floor included four new bedrooms and two full baths. The floor structure cantilevered two feet to the rear to create additional space for the upper level. The area over the new mudroom became a new walk-in closet for the master bedroom.
The exterior façade was designed to blend aesthetically with other newly renovated homes in the neighborhood. Also, innovative materials such as metal floor joists were used in the construction as an alternate to a typical wood framed floor.
