Mansfield Township in Warren County needed a new facility to house its emergency medical vehicles and support the EMS members. The building includes a four bay vehicle garage, a large meeting room, a kitchen facility, and office space.
Special care was taken in the design to blend this inherently utilitarian building into the surrounding farm and residential context. For example, low roof slopes cover the large areas were designed to reduce the overall scale appearance while maintaining the necessary interior space and functional layout.
In addition, the selection of materials and colors helps to fit this building into the surrounding context. Durable and economical masonry block was used in the bays, but the block’s color and finish is meant to emulate brick construction. Other elements such as the siding, roofing, and windows reinforce the residential character.
