This home was an existing one-story ranch on the tip of a peninsula on Lake Shawnee. The existing house was extensively renovated, and an upper level addition was provided to create a new barrel-vaulted master bedroom suite and separate family room on the upper level.
The lake side of the house was opened up with windows, porches, and decks to take advantage of the wide view of the lake. The elevations are a mix of eclectic lake-style elements and forms that are seen throughout the area.
The owner is an expert, and author, on lake ecology and ecosystems and he wanted to expand his existing house upwards on the piece of land he loves while creating a new and exciting look. Due to the small lot, variances were required, and obtained, from the township zoning board.
