The existing home on the steeply sloping property with lake views was too small for the needs of the owner. Situated in a unique neighborhood, it made sense to expand the home as necessary. So an addition and full renovation was planned for the home. But because the location is a tight site, the design would have to embrace the slope of the land. This required a terraced design that would create and connect the spaces necessary, but also follow the slope of the property.

The requirements included a new family room and dining area, an expansion of the main bedroom to create a full master bedroom suite, and a new three-car garage at the level of the street. The family room is a large two-story space with a loft and balcony overlooking the room.

Thought the program and spaces are relatively straight forward, the configuration of those spaces was determined by the slope of the property and the shape of the property. The new spaces were arranged into successive terraces to accommodate the land, but they were also angled as required to fit within the required yard setbacks of the neighborhood.
