The existing home was an older one-story house with a partial basement. The scope of the project was to keep the footprint of the existing house as much as possible, and to expand upon that framework to create a new modern two-story home for a growing family.
Much of the first story was removed or altered to allow for a new more spacious and open layout. On the first floor a large family room, kitchen and dining area is the major living area of the house and opens on to a new large deck sized for family and entertainment. Also located on the first floor is the spacious master bedroom suite.
On the upper level two bedrooms for children share a generous common bathroom. There is also a private office space, and ample storage in attic spaces. The second floor is tucked under the roof at the front to present a smaller scale one story appearance to the street. At the rear, the full two-story areas overlook the sheltered rear yard.
